As Associate Art Director at Funny Feelings for 10 years, I flourished in a small-team environment that pushed me to wear multiple hats. I had the opportunity to design numerous print issues for The Ski Journal, The Snowboarder’s Journal and The Flyfish Journal, shaping the visual storytelling across each publication.
Beyond print, I orchestrated a multitude of moving parts—from digital publishing and product photography to videography, web design, and merchandising. With three quarterly journals, four times a year, for a decade, I played a key role in producing 120 issues, each one sent out into the ethers.
For each print issue, I worked closely with editors and photo editors to craft visually striking feature articles, blending stunning photography with sophisticated, modern typography to enhance the storytelling.
I oversaw the digital publishing of each issue, ensuring a seamless transition of content online. This included creating release assets for email campaigns and social media marketing—ranging from release videos and product photography to social stories and reels that engaged and expanded the publication’s audience.
After taking on the title of Interactive Designer in addition to Associate Art Director in 2016, I was given the opportunity to do a massive web redesign across all three publications. I worked with the Art Director and Creative Director to rebrand The Snowboarder’s Journal and with the help of a developer, I was able to deliver wireframe mockups that were brought to life in WordPress.
I was also responsible for overseeing merchandising across all three publications. I designed and customized new products in collaboration with advertising partners. This involved creating unique, brand-aligned merchandise that resonated with each publication’s audience while maintaining strong partnerships with sponsors and advertisers.
